Occupational Therapy Talks for Schools
The Sunflower Clinic is an independent Occupational Therapy service for children, adolescents and young adults. We have clinics in Cork, Kerry, Kilkenny, Limerick, Kildare and Dublin. Since opening in 2006, we have helped over 8,000 clients with a variety of Occupational Therapy needs.
The Sunflower Clinic offers in-school talks for teachers and staff on Occupational Therapy. These courses qualify for CPD hours under the Croke Park agreement. The aim of these courses is to support principals and teachers to gain an understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy within a school environment, how to access Occupational Services and the benefits for children in receiving Occupational Therapy intervention.
IN ADDITION, THE COURSES HELP TEACHERS AND STAFF TO RECOGNISE INDICATIONS OF SENSORY PROCESSING DIFFICULTIES, POOR CO-ORDINATION, DIFFICULTIES WITH HANDWRITING AND THE CONSEQUENTIAL IMPACT THAT THESE MAY HAVE ON A CHILD’S EDUCATION. WE WILL ALSO DISCUSS OUR POPULAR IN-SCHOOL “SENSORY CIRCUITS” PROGRAMME DESIGNED TO SUPPORT TEACHERS IN IMPLEMENTING SENSORY-MOTOR GROUPS IN SCHOOL AND WE ALSO REVIEW PRACTICAL AND USEFUL EQUIPMENT. FOR MORE DETAILS ON SENSORY CIRCUITS, PLEASE CLICK HERE.
A number of case-studies are used to demonstrate these skills in a practical and useful manner in the classroom environment and a useful hand-out is also provided.
Courses typically take 2 hours to complete and can be delivered in the school. The cost for the course is €150.00 plus mileage (applicable if more than 10 km from our nearest clinic).
