The Sunflower Clinic is now offering a psychology service for adolescents aged 12 to 20 based at the Bridge Medical Practice, located in the Carrigaline Primary Care Centre (Eircode P43 X095) 20 minutes drive south of Cork city. This is headed up by Martin Donnelly, Clinical Psychologist, with over 20 years experience of helping his clients with a range of psychological issues.
Martin is registered as a Chartered Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland (M10543C), having completed the Clinical Psychologist Validation process with the Irish Department of Health, prior to relocating with his family to Ireland in 2019.
He maintains his registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (PS 0076163).
Martin is grounded in the Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic perspective, drawing also from his training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and other perspectives. He has worked extensively with depression, anxiety, change, loss and bereavement, trauma, abuse, relationship and peer group difficulties including bullying, emotional dysregulation, self-esteem, body image, sexuality and identity, alcohol and substance dependency, as well as the impact of Cancer and other medical and psychiatric illnesses on clients and families.
Martin’s practice has always been person-centered and diverse, and he brings clinical expertise and empathic insight to clients’ psychological struggles, to support and make sense of their distress, to facilitate meaningful change and growth, to build self-confidence, autonomy, and responsibility, and to improve their quality of life. Therapy also aims to increase self-awareness and distress tolerance, to reduce impulsive and avoidant behaviour, to increase positive emotions, and to build healthier, more stable, less conflicted ways of relating to ourselves, our families, and others.
